Elizabethan Gardens: Our Must-Visit Spot in the Outer Banks

On September 2nd, 2023, while my wife and I visited the Elizabethan Gardens, we enjoyed the sculptures and the flowers in bloom.

There was a majestic ~400 year old live oak looming over the island just quietly watching for four centuries.

We then made our way into the iconic center courtyard called the “Sunken Garden.” Surrounding the fountain are four statues representing each of the seasons. Winter holds her flame to stay warm, Autumn proudly displays her wheat harvest, Summer handles her abundance of grapes, and Spring wears a sash of fresh-picked flowers.

The entire center garden was filled with crape myrtle trees and trimmed hedges.

After we visited the Elizabethan Gardens, Elizabeth and I went back to the rental and then we enjoyed our last sunset before we set off for our drive home in the morning. The area was still flooded from Hurricane Idalia and I felt it gave beautiful, interesting little islands. It was nice that we had one last beautiful evening with sunlight on our surrounding pools of water peppered with tufts of pampas grass.
